Imports of oil bitumen to Georgia amounted to 6,500 tons in March 2020, which is 1,900 tons or 41.3 percent more than in February 2020, Trend reports referring to the Union of Oil Product Importers of Georgia.

Meanwhile, this indicator is 1,400 tons or 17.7 percent less compared to March 2019.

According to the union, in March 2020, Azerbaijan exported 5,200 tons (80 percent) of oil bitumen to Georgia. In addition, Georgia imported 1,000 tons (15.4 percent) of oil bitumen from Iraq, and 300 tons (4.6 percent) from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

From January through March 2020, the import of oil bitumen to Georgian amounted to 14,300 tons, which is 4,900 tons or 25.5 percent less than the same period last year (19,200 tons).

Of this volume, 7,100 tons (49.6 percent) of imports are accounted for the Islamic Republic of Iran, 6,000 tons (42 percent) for Azerbaijan, 1,000 tons (7 percent) for Iraq, and 200 tons (1.4 percent) for the United Arab Emirates.

“The reduction in oil bitumen imports is directly related to the restrictions imposed due to the spread of COVID-19,” the Union of Oil Product Importers of Georgia said.
