One of Uzbekistan's biggest refineries eyes to halt RON-80 fuel production

Bukhara Oil Refinery plans to completely abandon production of RON-80 gasoline, Trend reports citing Uzbekneftegaz.

The issue was highlighted following Uzbekneftegaz chairman of the board Mehriddin Abdullaev visited the plant, the message said.

During the visit, the prospects of the project implementation on modernization and reconstruction of Bukhara Refinery were touched upon, as well as issues related to the sale of products in the domestic and export markets, provision of raw material base, technical and economic indicators of the project with various options for changing oil prices.

"As a result of the investment project on modernization and reconstruction of the refinery it is planned to start production of RON-91, RON-93, RON-95 fuels and get an opportunity to completely abandon production of RON-80 gasoline. It will also allow switching over to production of diesel fuel meeting requirements of Euro-5 standard," the report says.

Following the visit, instructions were given to finalize the investment project, as well as acceleration of the front end engineering design project development.

The modernization of the Bukhara Refinery worth $533 million is planned to be carried out in three stages in partnership with South Korean SK Engineering, and be completed by 2025. After that, the refinery will be able to process 2.5 million tons of oil and gas condensate per year. The refinery's annual capacity will be processing 1.2 million tons of Euro-5 gasoline, 200,000 tons of aviation kerosene and 750,000 tons of diesel fuel.

Currently, Uzbekistan have three large oil refineries including Bukhara, Fergana and Altyarik with a total annual capacity of processing 11.1 million tons, operating in Uzbekistan.

In March 2020, Bukhara Refinery started production of high-quality Euro-4 and Euro-5 standard diesel fuel, with an initial capacity of 100,000 tons per year. Installation and commissioning work was carried out with online support of specialists from the French Axens company.
