Anticorrosion works have been completed at several facilities of Black Sea oil terminal of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR in Georgia's Kulevi port, Trend reports via the terminal’s website.
“According to the detailed plan of anticorrosion activities approved by the management of Terminal, the company has recently completed anti-corrosive coating application works for several major facilities. One of those important structures is a 50 m high Vessel Traffic Control Tower, which is exposed to the severe marine environment,” reads the message.
Reportedly, in total about 4000 square meters of steel structure of the tower has been sand-blasted, power tooled and coated.
“All coating works have been performed in compliance with the quality standards and project requirements under supervision of the paint manufacturer representatives and quality control specialists,” the message says.
Corrosion Management and Monitoring is one of the main elements of the Black Sea Terminal’s asset integrity management strategy. Considering this the company implemented consistent program where all process equipment, pipelines and structures are being periodically inspected to predict and prevent potential major accidents. All monitoring results are being studied by the specialized contractors and periodical anticorrosion works are being performed to eliminate identified weak zones.
Kulevi oil terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.
The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.
