Volume of oil pumped from Azerbaijan via BTC pipeline marginally down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12

As much as 12.5 million tons of oil were shipped from Azerbaijan through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) from January through May 2020, which is 0.7 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.

During the first five months of 2020, 80.1 percent of all oil transported through the country's main oil pipelines accounted for the BTC oil pipeline.

In total, over 15.6 million tons of oil were transported through the pipelines, said the committee.

From January through May 2020, nearly 1.8 million tons of transit (Turkmen) oil was pumped through the BTC, which is 10.8 percent less compared to the same period of 2019.

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1.7 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers lie through Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers through Georgia, 1,076 kilometers through Turkey.

The construction of the pipeline began in April 2003, and its filling with oil - on May 18, 2005
