Iran reveals number of drilled oil, gas wells

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28

About 31 oil and gas wells have been drilled onshore and offshore from the beginning of current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date (June 28), Deputy Director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Hamidreza Xoshayand said, Trend reports citing NIDC.

Xoshayand noted that 1 of the drilled wells was an exploration well, 14 delineation and development wells, and 16 repair wells.

He added that 25 wells were drilled in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).

"Three wells were drilled in the territory of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), two wells in the territory of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company(IOOC), and one well within the discovery management of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)," he said.

The official stressed that the NIDC has more than 70 different drilling rigs. At present, 17 drilling rigs are being relocated in the drilling operations areas.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. Iran's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology equipment, the country can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country’s hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
