Kazakhstan corrects marginal tariffs for energy producing organizations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jun. 30

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Marginal tariffs of a number of energy producing organizations were corrected in Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.

On Jun. 29, 2020 the ministry said that energy-producing organizations of Kazakhstan submitted applications for Marginal tariff adjustment.

Thus, of the 44 energy-producing organizations in Kazakhstan, the tariff was increased for 34 organizations, tariffs of nine organizations remained the same, and tariff of one organization was reduced.

The ministry said that the costs of energy-producing organizations increased in 2020 for reasons beyond their control (fuel purchase costs, renewable energy purchase volumes, payments to the budget and system operator services). Meanwhile, the level of depreciation of stations year-on-year is increasing and currently stands at about 60 percent. This leads to power supply quality being compromised.

This forces Kazakhstan to purchase electricity adjustment services from neighboring countries for over 8 billion tenge ($19.8 million) per year, which also affects the final price of electric energy. This is why energy-producing organizations submitted applications for adjusting marginal tariffs in Apr. 2020.

The ministry forecasts said that if the marginal tariffs are changed, the average check for electric energy for end consumers for statistical average apartments may increase no earlier than 4Q2020 by no more than 200 tenge (49 cents) per month.

“Timely adjustment of marginal tariffs will allow to start modernization of the power stations to successfully pass the upcoming autumn-winter period and reduce emergency situations starting this year,” the ministry said.
