Georgia increases domestic energy consumption

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 7

Georgia’s domestic electricity consumption is growing at an average annual rate of 4.4 percent, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC).

At the same time, electricity production decreases, and imports increase, said the commission.

In 2019, the share of imported electricity increased by 7.8 percent compared to 2018; electricity imports were 6.7 times higher than exports.

As for the natural gas sector, in 2019 the demand for it in the country increased by 15 percent and amounted to 2.5 billion cubic meters.

In the country's water supply sector, the number of subscribers with meters is growing. At the same time, the average consumption of one subscriber with a household meter increased by 1.1 percent, and the average consumption of commercial subscribers decreased by 7.8 percent.
