Azerbaijan talks perspectives of renewable energy projects in private sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8

By Nargiz Ismayilova - Trend:

The possibility of implementing projects on the use of renewable energy sources (RES) in the private sector of Azerbaijan exists, and these projects are very competitive, Jamil Malikov, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources told Trend on July 8.

According to him, the costs of RES are able to compete with the costs incurred by the private sector when using traditional energy resources (gas, fuel oil, diesel fuel).

“The use of renewable energy sources is competitive due annual cost reduction in the cost of technologies used in development of alternative and renewable energy sources,” he said.

“Today, the possibilities of using renewable energy sources for private needs, both at the household level and at the small enterprise level, are becoming more competitive, given current prices and tariffs,” Malikov added.

One of the most important areas of activity of the State Agency in 2020 was the establishment of alternative energy supply in remote settlements, villages and localities. In this direction, the agency selected 12 pilot projects in villages of different regions of the country (Lankaran, Guba, Shaki-Zagatala, Samukh-Shamkir).

For these projects, the agency prepares proposals on the possibility of using alternative energy sources.

Presently, consistent steps to develop alternative energy are being taking in Azerbaijan. To this end, negotiations are ongoing with foreign companies and investors, including companies from China, the UAE, the US and the EU.
