Iran's Ministry of Petroleum designs industry development strategy

The Ministry of Petroleum of Iran has prepared four strategic documents on oil and gas production, petrochemical production and fuel consumption until 2041 to be considered by the parliament, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh told journalists, Trend reports referring to Shana news agency.

Zanganeh made the remark following a meeting with members of the Iranian parliament's energy committee.

The minister emphasized that according to the first document, the fuel consumption of Iranian vehicles will be reduced by 20141.

Zanganeh added that the second document is related to Iran's gas production and sales.

"The third document concerns Iran's oil production and increase production, and the fourth document aims at increase of petrochemicals production,” he said.

The minister noted that these strategic documents cannot be implemented within a short period of time.

The documents will be submitted to the Iranian parliament's energy committee, Zanganeh added without disclosing further details.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields, and the country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels.

With available technology equipment, the country can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country’s hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
