Kulevi oil terminal holds technical inspection of boiler chimneys

The boiler chimneys of Kulevi oil terminal of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR have been inspected by specialized contractor possessing all the necessary certificates, Trend reports with reference to the terminal’s website.

Reportedly, the 45 m high boiler chimneys were inspected on June 10, 2020.

Steam generating boilers have been operating in Black Sea Terminal since 2008, which respond to the terminal’s technological and domestic heating requirements. Operation of steam boilers is performed in accordance with applicable standards on operations of pressurized vessels and safety rules on exploitation of steam generating boilers.

In frames of terminal’s scheduled technical inspection plan, the boilers are being periodically inspected by involvement of specialized contractor companies.

During the technical inspection of boiler chimneys visual and ultrasonic NDT techniques were applied. Conditions of chimney foundations, steel sheets of pipe, bolted connections between pipe sections, tension cables, tension cable connections, fixators, bolted connections, ladder and service platforms were assessed and reported. No significant defects of the chimney elements observed. In particular, corrosion rate of the chimney walls is in acceptable range. The tension cables condition is good.

All data about the technical inspection have been registered in technical passports of boiler chimneys. According to the conclusion of the inspectors the boiler chimney are permitted for further exploitation.

The terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.

The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.
