Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas boosts oil output at country's major fields

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 3

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Oil and gas condensate production of Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (KMG) has amounted to 11.3 million tons of oil (467,000 barrels per day) in 1H2020, having decreased by 3.1 percent year-on-year, Trend reports with reference to KMG.

In turn, natural and associated gas production increased by 3.9 percent year-on-year to 4.3 billion cubic meters.

Oil production and natural and associated gas production at Kazakhstan’s Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak fields has increased by 2.2 percent and 4.3 percent year-on-year, having amounted to 4.08 million tons (179,000 barrels per day) and 3.02 billion cubic meters, respectively.

KMG’s share in oil production at Tengiz field declined by 4.7 percent year-on-year and amounted to 2.8 million tons (125,000 barrels per day), whereas gas production decreased by 4 percent to 1.5 billion cubic meters, respectively. The company said that a significant impact on the decline in oil and gas production was exerted by a reduction in planned production.

Oil production at Kashagan field increased by 42.5 percent year-on-year to 673.000 tons (29,000 barrels a day). Natural and associated gas production at the field increased by 46 percent year-on-year and amounted to 406 million cubic meters.

“Oil and gas production increased as a result of the conducted overhaul in 2019, which influenced the increase in the operational efficiency of the offshore and onshore facilities, increase the injection fund from 4 to 6 wells, installation of additional reboilers on oil processing lines, and new wells commissioning. The average gross daily production at Kashagan amounted to 354,000 barrels a day in 1H2020,” the company said.

KMG’s oil and condensate production at Karachaganak increased by 5.2 percent year-on-year and amounted to 562.000 tons (24,000 barrels a day), whereas gas production amounted to 1.04 billion cubic meters, up by 6.3 percent year-on-year.

“The growth of oil and gas production is associated with modernization of the facilities of Karachaganak Processing Complex (KPC) and gas-processing units (Unit 2 and Unit 3) after planned preventive maintenance in September-October 2019,” the company said.

In turn, oil production at KMG-operated assets decreased by 5.8 percent year-on-year and amounted to 7.2 million tonnes (289,000 barrels a day) while gas production increased by 2.9 percent to 1.3 billion cubic meters.

“The decrease in oil production volumes at KMG-operated assets was mainly attributable to the natural decline in production levels at JV Kazgermunai LLP and JSC PetroKazakhstan Inc. by 29.6 percent and 22.9 percent, respectively,” the company said.

KMG is the Kazakhstan operator for exploration, production, refining and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state interests in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan.
