Minister: Iran's gas network covers 95 percent of population

Iran's national gas network is currently covers 95 percent of country's population, said Iranian Oil Minister.

"At the moment, 88 percent of villages are connected to gas network," said Bijan Zangeneh, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The official made the remark during inauguration of gas transmission to 77 villages in southern Mashhad via videoconference.

"The gas is supplied via pipeline that is very economic. About 50 billion rial [about $1,190] has been assigned for gas transmission to villages, industries and power plants," he said. "From 2013, the government has provided gas to 30,000 villages, and this figure will increase to 33,000 villages by the end of current Iranian year [started March 20, 2020]."

"This project will have positive effect on the environment; furthermore, gas supply to villages has created many jobs, as the equipment was produced domestically and install by local contractors," the minister noted.

"Meanwhile, there are other projects to be implemented in the oil sector," he said.
