Iran modernizes pipeline for gas condensate exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The first stage of the second pipeline for the export of gas condensate extracted and processed from the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) has been modernized, said Hossein Azimi, deputy director for development project of 19th phase of South Pars gas field, Trend reports citing the Pars Oil and Gas Company’s official website.

Azimi noted that two Single Point Mooring (SPM) floating systems are used to export gas condensate from the second zone of the South Pars gas field.

He added that first SPM on the export of gas condensate from South Pars oil field has been put into operations.

The deputy director emphasized that second SPM has the potential to load 7,000 cubic meters of gas condensate per hour, and it will be located between 12, 13 and 14 phases of the South Pars gas field.

He noted that 36-inch 7.6-kilometer pipeline will connect the second zone of South Pars gas field with the second SPM.

The second stage will begin on August 21 with the loading of gas condensate into the second SPM system.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr Province via a gas pipeline.
