Production starts at third platform of Iran's South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The rich gas production began from the thrid platform (13C) of the 13th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) on August 21, said Payam Motamed, operator of the South Pars project's 13th Phase, Trend reports citing Pars Oil and Gas Company’s official website.

According to Motamed, in total, 14.2 million cubic meters of gas per day will be transported from this platform to the refinery.

Motamed added that the gas extracted from the 13C platform will be transported to the 13A platform via an 18-inch pipeline, and then transported via 100-km long 32-inch pipeline to the 11th refinery.

The official stressed that the total weight of the 13C platform, including all equipment, is about 7,000 tons. The equipment of this platform was produced by Iran Marine Industrial Company (Sadra).

“At present, the 13th phase of the South Pars gas field produces 43 million cubic meters of gas per day, and 28.5 million cubic meters account for B and D platforms,” he said.

The official noted that the production at the 13A platform will start over next months, and a total of 56 million cubic meters of gas will be produced from this phase.

Given that the 13th phase of the South Pars gas field transports 56 million cubic meters of gas per day to the 11th refinery, the refinery can produce 50 million cubic meters of gas; 80,000 barrels of gas condensate; 2,900 tons of LPG gas; 2,750 tons of ethane and 400 tons of sulfur per day.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects related to the South Pars gas field.

Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a gas pipeline.

Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
