Iran's Marun oil field to boost its extraction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27

The oil extraction from Marun field in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) will increase by 53,000 barrels per day, as a result of the work done on the 2nd and 5th phases of the field, said Executive Director for Marun Oil & Gas Production Company (MOGPC) Hamid Kavian, Trend reports citing National Iranian South Oil Company's official website.

The director noted that in this regard, 5 development wells and 9 repair wells will be drilled.

The director added that in addition, the oil extraction from the 1st and 4th phases of the Marun field will increase by 32,000 barrels per day.

Kavian emphasized that it is planned to drill 10 development wells and 6 repair wells in this regard.

According to him, the work on the 3rd and 6th phases of the Marun field will be determined soon.

The Marun oil field is located in the southeast of the Ahvaz county of Khuzestan Province. The oil field is 65 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide. So far, 477 wells have been drilled in this field, and oil is extracted from about 285 wells. Daily oil extraction in this field is about 350,000 barrels.

The Marun oil field operates under the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). The NISOC has signed a contract with North Drilling Company on development of 1st and 4th phases of Marun oil field, a contract with Iranian E&P Negin Afagh Kish Energy Development Co. (TENCO) on phases 2, 5 and 6 of Marun field, and a contract with Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company on phase 3 of Marun field.
