Ukraine claims to be strategic partner in investing in renewable energy sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.28

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Ukraine has recently invested 7 billion euros in the renewable energy sector, Trend quoted Yurii Shafarenko, Deputy Chairman, State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, as saying.

He made the remarks during the Baku International Energy Charter Forum “Transition to renewables in power generation, transport, heating and cooling: modern challenges and trends”.

“Energy transition is very important for Ukraine, because we are an energy-dependent country. We import a lot of gas, oil products and oil. Renewables will help us to get rid of the import of natural gas. We’ve developed the national action plan, which will help us to increase the share of renewables up to 11 percent. Our aim is to achieve 25 percent of renewables’ share in the general energy balance.

“We still use fossil fuel and this affects our ecology greatly. We do our best to make the cost of energy more economically feasible and if all countries will follow this example, they will be able to develop new technologies and energy will be more accessible, which will increase our competitiveness in the energy sector. I call on other countries to view Ukraine as a strategic partner when it comes to construction and investment in renewable sector,” he said.
