Romanian expert says digitalization of economy to improve security of EU's energy system

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 28

By Fidan Babayev – Trend:

The digitalization of the economy will increase the security of the EU's energy system, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment of Romania Nicolae Gavrila said, Trend reports.

Gavrila made the speech at the Baku International Forum of the Energy Charter on the ‘Transition to renewable energy sources in electricity production, transport, heating, and cooling: current challenges and trends’ topic.

The event was organized jointly with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Charter.

Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Secretary-General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, Energy Policy Director of the Directorate-General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero, and other representatives of the International Energy Charter took part at the event.

According to Gavrila, the main current task is the transition to clean energy and the restructuring of the economy towards green energy.

“Electricity, while accounting for only a fifth of global energy consumption, is a critical energy source for achieving long-term climate and other sustainable development goals, as renewables are showing exponential growth and wind and solar energy relies on significant contributions from hydropower,” said the state secretary.

He stressed that the growth in the use of renewable energy sources must accelerate in the heating, electricity, and transportation sectors to ensure the transition to clean energy.
