Azerbaijan's Azerenerji intensifies its activities on construction of 'Gobu' substation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 11

By Ilhama Isabalayeva - Trend:

The growing demand for electricity in the country, especially after the liberation of Azerbaijani lands, led to a significant acceleration of construction and reconstruction work in the power system, Azerenerji OJSC told Trend.

For this reason, Azerenerji has intensified its work in all directions, including the Gobu substation under construction with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (330, 220, 110 kW) and the 385-megawatt Gobu power station.

According to the message, the Gobu energy project is unique in terms of eliminating dependence on one source in the country's energy system, maximizing the stability and reliability of power supply to Baku and Absheron, meeting the growing demand in the country, reducing the load of regional power plants in Baku and directing it to the districts.

"The new source will serve as a regulating generation in the Absheron power system. The peculiarity of the Gobu substation being built here is that it will be the first 330-kilovolt substation being built in Baku, and, most importantly, it will serve as a substitute for the strategic importance of the 500-kilovolt Absheron substation in the country. Work has been completed on the underground communication lines of all three machine rooms of the power plant, underground utilities of seven block transformers have been laid, water, sewer, and gas pipes have been laid, metal structures are underway," the company said.

According to Azerenerji, most of the work at the substation, including metal structures, has been completed, and equipment is being installed. A new administration building has been constructed, and assembly work is currently underway. At the same time, the construction of a hostel and an educational building that meets modern standards is underway. The construction of high voltage lines to integrate the Gobu energy project with the grid is also progressing rapidly.

"The Gobu energy project is expected to be completed earlier than planned - by the end of 2021," Azerenerji added.
