BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 16

Trend:

Turkey does not exclude the participation of Azerbaijan in the development of oil and gas fields in the Black Sea, a source in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend.

Azerbaijan has vast experience in the development of oil and gas fields.

At present, the participation of foreign companies in the development of oil and gas fields in the Black Sea in Turkey is under discussion, the ministry said.

As Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier, if on August 21, 2020, 320 billion cubic meters of gas in the Black Sea was discovered, then recent studies have increased the volume of proven reserves of the new field by more than 85 billion, that is, up to 405 billion cubic meters.

The Turkish President noted that Ankara's goal is to start producing gas at a new field in the Black Sea by 2023.

“A number of international circles and countries are not abandoning their attempts to leave Turkey outside the oil and gas market, to prevent Ankara from ensuring the country's energy security. The results of the latest research in the oil and gas sector will help to free Turkey from external energy dependence,” Erdogan said.

In April 2014, a law came into force in Turkey allowing oil exploration in forests and national parks

In 2019, exploration drilling work was carried out in Turkey to search for hydrocarbons, 5,063 exploration wells were drilled. During the year, the total depth of exploration drilling operations amounted to over 9.5 million meters.

At the same time, TPAO drilled 3,048 exploration wells with total footage of 6,145,929 meters.

Some 104 wells with a total depth of 133,386 meters were drilled by organizations of the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration of Turkey (MTA), 257 wells with a total depth of 311,662 meters were drilled by other Turkish companies.

Foreign companies drilled 1,312 exploration wells with a total depth of over 2.24 million meters, and joint ventures and consortiums - 342 wells.

From January through December 2019, 510 deposits were drilled by TPAO, 8 – by MTA, 24 – by other domestic companies, 306 - by foreign companies, and 93 deposits – by joint consortiums.
