By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The volume of production from Chirag platform in Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea has dropped from 93,200 b/d in 2010 to 41,000 b/d in 2019, Trend reports.

BP data shows that the platform’s output stood at 74,400 b/d in 2011, decreasing to 69,670 b/d in 2013 and further to 61,900 b/d in 2014.

The volume of production dipped to 48,000 b/d in 2015 then recovering to 54,000 b/d in 2016, followed by a decrease to 51,000 b/d in 2017.

The platform continued to reduce its output to 46,000 b/d in 2018 and further to 41,000 b/d in 2019.

According to the latest BP report, the volume of production from the Chirag stood at 36,000 b/d in the first three quarters of 2020.

Total ACG production for the three quarters of 2020 was on average about 482,000 barrels per day (b/d) (about 132 million barrels or 17.9 million tonnes in total).

The Chirag platform is one of the six BP operated platforms to produce from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The platform has been on production since 1997 and wasn’t developed with any means of artificial lift.

Chirag is the only platform on the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli which does not have gas lift, all other platforms have had it since their start-up.

In march 2020, Australian Worley company was awarded a contract for the gas lift project on Chirag platform.

Worley said that Azerbaijan International Operating (AIOC), operated by BP, has awarded the company a contract for engineering, procurement and construction services as part of a gas lift project.

Under the contract, it will provide engineering, procurement and construction services to support production operations on the Chirag platform in the Caspian Sea. The project scope includes new gas lift flowlines and production manifolds.
