Azerbaijan’s natural gas imports have increased from 0.25 billion cubic meters in 2010 to 1.40 billion cubic meters in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
The country’s imports remained unchanged in 2011, before rising to 0.55 billion cubic meters in 2012, which was the peak volume from 2010 through 2019.
Azerbaijan continued reducing natural gas imports to 0.45 billion cubic meters in 2013, 0.31 billion cubic meters in 2014 and 0.21 billion cubic meters in 2015.
The volume of imports rose 0.30 billion cubic meters in 2016, 1.63 billion cubic meters in 2017, 1.84 billion cubic meters in 2018 and 1.40 billion cubic meters in 2019.
Azerbaijan is very close to delivering gas directly from the Caspian Sea basin to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor in several months.
The Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), the longest section of the system, has already reached its initial capacity of 6 billion cubic meters. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European leg of the Southern Gas Corridor, has already started commercial operations and is expected to deliver 10 billion cubic meters per year to Europe.
