BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 21
By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
The gas extraction from the platform of the 16th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) has restarted as of yesterday on November 20, the Production Manager of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Alireza Ebadi said, Trend reports citing the POGC’s website.
The manager emphasized that thus, daily 500 million cubic feet (about 14.2 million cubic meters) of gas is currently extracted at the platform.
He added that the extraction was suspended in 8th month of the last Iranian year (October 23 through November 21, 2019) due to a malfunction in the pipeline that is transporting gas from the platform.
Ebadi also noted that the pipes have been renewed at the 72-kilometer part of the 115-kilometer length of the pipeline. The remaining 43-kilometer part of the pipeline will be renewed if necessary.
Due to the proximity of 15th and 16th phases of South Pars gas field, the extraction from these phases is carried out together. There are a total of 22 wells around the 2 platforms of these phases. A total of 1 billion cubic feet (about 28 million cubic meters) of rich gas is transported from both platforms to the South Pars Gas Company via two 32-inch pipelines with the length of 115 kilometers.
The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable.
Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
The South Pars gas field has the potential to produce daily 700 million cubic meters of gas and Iran is currently extracting 630 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.
