Kazakhstan's Zhambyl to reduce energy-dependence by attracting investments in renewables

Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region will increase its own energy independence by attracting investments into renewable energy sources, region’s Head Berdybek Saparbayev said, Trend reports citing Central Communications Service of Kazakhstan.

Saparbayev said that a total of seven investment projects worth 25.7 billion tenge ($60.7 million) were implemented in the region.

"Overall, four projects for the production of electricity using alternative sources with a capacity of 133.8 MW, and worth 54.5 billion tenge ($128.8 million) are being implemented in the region at the moment. Upon completion of the projects, the total capacity of renewable energy sources will be 403.65 MW in the region, increasing renewables share to 30 percent of the total volume of generated electricity," he said.

He further added that increasing electricity generation is an important component of the region's economy, which seeks to actively develop industrial production and commodity entrepreneurship.

"In this regard, 147 projects worth 73 billion tenge ($172.6 million) have been approved and 136 projects have already been credited for 49.1 billion tenge ($116.1 million) within the Economy of Simple Things state program," Saparbayev said.

He added that a total of 368 billion tenge ($870.2 million) worth of investments are to be attracted to the region, including 255 billion tenge ($603.02 million) which already were attracted to date," he said.
