Energy companies operating in Georgia have submitted to the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) information on investment projects planned for 2025 as part of tariff applications, Trend reports citing Georgian media.
At the moment, participants in the electricity market plan to invest 1.26 billion lari ($384.8 million). This amount will be used to expand the distribution network, as well as to reconstruct power plants. Among the planned investments in the private sector, Energo-Pro Georgia is in the first place, and the largest public investment will be made by the State Electricity System of Georgia.
According to GNERC, the investment projects of energy companies are as follows:
1) JSC "Georgian State Electric System" plans to invest a total of 464.19 million lari ($141.7 million). In accordance with the plan agreed with GNERC, the following projects will be implemented: double-circuit 220 kV overhead line "Odishi 1.2" (Jvari-Khorga power transmission line 60 cm, double-circuit 220 kV overhead line Shuakhevi-Akhaltsikhe, overhead line 90 km, overhead line 500 kV Layanuri - Tskhaltubo, 220/110 KV JSC "Ozurgeti", etc.
2) JSC "Energo-Pro Georgia" - invests 424.69 million lari ($129.7 million). Investment projects of distribution companies include the construction and reconstruction of substations, overhead power lines, cable lines, and other components of the distribution network, which are necessary for a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers.
3) According to the plans of the licensees for the production of electricity, the volume of investments of Energo-Pro Georgia Generation JSC (Rionhes, Layanur HPP, Humates Cascade, Dzevrul HPP) for 2020-2022 is 112.19 million lari ($34.2 million). In particular, in 2020, according to actual data, 6.69 million lari ($2.04 million) were invested, in 2021, 64.20 million lari ($19.6 million) will be invested, and in 2023 - 41.29 million lari ($12.6 million). In accordance with the investment projects of Energo-Pro Georgia Generation JSC within the framework of the plan, rehabilitation works will be carried out at the generation facilities.
4) The total investment in the Inguri HPP for 2020-2022 is up to 150 million lari ($45.8 million). According to the plan agreed with GNERC, a significant part of the investments will be directed to the implementation of the Inguri HPP rehabilitation program. The total investment of Cascade Vardnil HPP LLC for 2020-2022 is 12.8 million lari ($3.9 million), which involves the replacement and modernization of hydroelectric units and transformers.
5) JSC "Telasi" will invest 87.35 million lari ($26.6 million) in 2021-2025.
6) The general investment plan for 2020-2022 of Georgian Water & Power LLC is 10.33 million lari ($3.1 million). Investment projects include rehabilitation of the Zhinvali HPP tunnel, as well as an overhaul of hydroelectric units, replacement, and modernization of hydraulic structures and power plants.
