Georgia sees increase in demand for natural gas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.17

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Demand for natural gas amounted to 2.69 billion m3 in 2019 (13.9 percent more than in the previous year) in Georgia, Trend reports citing the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

As reported, demand mainly has increased in thermal power plants, households, and other specific sectors.

In 2019 final consumption of natural gas was 1.94 billion m3 (9.2 percent more than in the previous year).

In comparison to 2018, consumption of natural gas has increased in the household sector (15.5 percent more).

Respectively with demand, consumption of natural gas has increased in the following sectors: chemical industry, construction, commercial and public services, and agriculture.

It should be mentioned that consumption of natural gas by road transport has decreased to some extent in the reason for price growth, and increasing competitiveness of the LPG.

According to the Geostat, an increased amount of imported hybrid and electric cars causes a decrease in natural gas consumption by cars.
