Turkmenistan increases volume of electricity exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 23

Turkmenistan increased the value of electricity exports by 2.4 times in 10 months of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

The volume of supplies increased by 2.1 times. The main buyers of Turkmen electricity are currently Afghanistan, Iran, and Uzbekistan.

Enterprises subordinate to the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan increased electricity production by 40.3 percent from January through October 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

As reported, Turkmenistan is working to increase the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in the direction of Serhetabat-Herat-Turgundi and Ramadasan–Kalinaw.

Turkmenistan is expected to grow electricity exports by 8.7 percent by 2025.

The construction of new power plants, power transmission lines, modern transformer substations, and switchgear will contribute to the growth of exports.

Earlier, the Turkmen Ministry of Energy said that there are opportunities to transit Turkmen electricity through Afghanistan to Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India.

Turkmenistan plans to generate up to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by 2030.
