Iran names amount of investments to be made in thermal power plants

In general, 21 large facilities in the area of thermal power plants in Iran are to be launched in Iran with an investment of 400 trillion rials (about $9.52 billion) in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 21, 2021), said Mohsen Tarztalab, Managing Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the website.

He made the remark in an event dedicated to the launch of several water and electricity facilities in Iran.

According to Tarztalab, so far, 14 large facilities worth 250 trillion rials (about $5.95 billion) have been put into operation.

Tarztalab added that 1,300 megawatt-hours have been added to the power generation capacity of Iran's power plants.

The director emphasized that 7 more large facilities will be put into operation by the end of the current Iranian year with an investment of 150 trillion rials (about $3.57 billion).

According to him, in total, Iran’s TPPs generate more than 233,000 gigawatt hours of electricity from the beginning of the current Iranian year to December 5.

Currently, the total generation of power plants in Iran, including thermal, water, alternative, small-scale, and nuclear power plants is 83,685 megawatts, where 81 percent of it is produced by TPPs.

At present, the combined power cycle accounts for 41.7 percent of the generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants with 28,249 megawatts, the gas units account for 34.9 percent with 23,657 megawatts, and steam units account for 23.4 percent with 15,829 megawatts.

As many as 28 water and electricity facilities were launched in the Tehran and Gilan provinces of Iran yesterday on December 22, by the spending of 5.53 trillion rials (about $132 million).
