Iran increases production at joint oil, gas fields

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.23

Trend:

One of the plans of the Iranian government was to increase production from its joint oil and gas fields, as the country's current government tried to complete projects at the joint fields, Trend reports via an IRNA report.

The report said the Iranian government started the operation of several phases of the South Pars gas field (joint field with Qatar), with the aim to produce and export gas.

"We took our right and through the past years we have produced from joint gas fields as much as our neighbors," Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said in a recent cabinet meeting.

"Previous exploration from the joint fields wasn't high, but now it has improved, and this is one of the achievements of the current government," said Rouhani.

Iran has multiple joint oil and gas fields with Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates and Turkmenistan. The biggest joint fields are located in West Karun and South Pars areas.

Tehran has previously assigned the process of operating the joint fields to foreign contractors that were undone due to the US sanctions.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh has recently indicated that due to the increase of gas production from South Pars oil field, the country's gas export has doubled in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), compared to 2013.
