BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 30

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The start of the third project for the construction of a solar photovoltaic station (PVP) on the basis of Scaling Solar 3 public-private partnership is scheduled for February 2021. The construction of the power plant is planned in Bukhara, Namangan, and Khorezm regions of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the Ministry of the energy of Uzbekistan.

It is planned that three PVPs with a total capacity of 500 MW will be built within the framework of the third Scaling Solar project. The investors will be identified as a result of their participation in the tender.

In October 2019, Masdar (UAE) won the tender for the construction of a 100 MW PV power plant in the Navoi region within the framework of Scaling Solar. An agreement was signed between the Government of Uzbekistan and the International Finance Corporation to attract consulting services and increase the capacity of the Scaling Solar project to 1000 MW of solar PV plants.

As a result of this agreement, a tender was announced in 2020 for the construction of two PV power plants of the Scaling Solar 2 project in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions with a total capacity of 400 MW. A tender is currently being held for these projects.

It was noted that the Government of Uzbekistan is implementing a large-scale renewable energy strategy, during which it is planned to generate up to 5 GW of cost-effective and environmentally friendly solar energy in the next 10 years. The strategy is aimed at meeting the growing demand for electricity and is being implemented within the framework of the concept for the provision of Uzbekistan with electrical energy for 2020-2030.
