Uzbekistan to build several hydroelectric power plants in Navoi region

Some 16 projects with a total cost of $1.4 billion are planned to be implemented in 2021 in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan within the framework of the development of hydropower potential of Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of investment projects that are planned to be implemented in the Navoi region, as well as in the hydropower industry.

According to the information, a program for the development of hydropower in 2017-2021 was adopted in May 2017. The program includes 65 projects worth $3.4 billion, 34 of them are aimed at creating new capacities, while 31 - for modernization.

It is reported that to date 12 projects with 1,100 megawatts have been launched. Another 20 projects with 950 megawatts are being implemented at the final stage.

According to the presentation, 16 projects are planned to be implemented in 2021 with a total cost of $1.4 billion. In particular, 11 new hydroelectric power plants will be built and an electric capacity of 587 megawatts will be created.

At the same time, the remaining five projects will provide for the modernization of existing power plants with an increase in their capacity.

During the presentation, information was also provided on the ongoing work to transform the hydropower industry.
