The excavations in the 11th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) continue unabated, Executive Director of the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC), Hamidreza Masoudi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The director stressed that the Petropars Company started excavations in the 11th phase on December 16, 2020. So far, 4,180 meters have been drilled.

Masoudi added that the excavations are being carried out in two stages to start extraordinary extraction from 11th phase of the South Pars gas field. In the first stage, 1 delineation well and 3 extraction wells will be drilled and completed. In the next stage, 8 wells will be drilled and completed after the production platform is set up.

“Drilling work for 3 wells in the 11th phase has been completed and pipes have been installed. At present, the drilling of the 4th well is underway," he said.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).

As reported, Iran is currently extracting 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.

France's Total and China's CNPCI companies have refused to operate in the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. According to this, the operations in this phase were fully entrusted to the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC).
