BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia and the European Union (EU) are discussing the possibility of laying a high voltage transmission line along Georgia's Black Sea seabed to connect Georgia and EU energy systems, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.
She said that this was one of the issues discussed within the 6th EU-Georgia Association Committee meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
Turnava said that the idea of the project appeared about three years ago and is of historical significance.
She also said that the World Bank had given signals of readiness to finance technical and economic study of the project.
“This project was conceived as an idea two or three years ago, and today we have already informed our friends and colleagues that the World Bank should confirm the full feasibility study. It is important for us that Western companies take part in this historic, important project, and we urge the relevant EU structures to encourage companies to participate both in financing the study and in the subsequent search for investors and contractors,” said Turnava.
