Turkmenistan’s energy sector remains interesting for Canada, the Global Affairs of Canada (GAC) told Trend.
In particular, the message said that Turkmenistan’s energy sector remains an interest for Canada given the potential of broader Caspian gas cooperation with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on a joint pipeline development project of a Caspian 'Dostlug' field between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in January 2021.
“There is also a potential for cooperation in the healthcare and agricultural sectors,” the GAC said. "Overall, Canada and Turkmenistan enjoy a cordial bilateral relationship".
Furthermore, the GAC noted that COVID-19 has emphasized the need to increase the countries’ engagement on science diplomacy.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on joint exploration, development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostlug field in the Caspian Sea was signed on January 21, 2021.
The priority areas of cooperation between the two countries are energy and transport.
In particular, the oil and gas company Buried Hill is conducting exploratory drilling on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea. A long-standing partner is Thermo Design Engineering Ltd, which conducts work on gas fields in the eastern region of Turkmenistan. The national air carrier acquires Challenger passenger airliners manufactured by the Bombardier aircraft company.
