Iran unveils generation capacity of thermal power plants

The electricity generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants reached 68,933 megawatt-hours by the end of last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.

According to the report, 1,759 megawatt-hours were added to the electricity generation potential of Iran's thermal power plants over the last Iranian year.

“So far, 583 units have been created at Iran's thermal power plants. With the launch of the Caspian TPP, the number of private sector’s TPP units has reached 380. And the electricity generation potential of private sector has reached 46,425 megawatt-hours,” the report said.

Currently, the power generation potential of Iran's power plants (thermal, water, alternative renewable, diesel, small-scale and nuclear power plants) is 85,115 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of this amount is accounted for thermal power plants, the report said.

According to the report, the potential of combined cycle power units is 30,643 megawatts (36 percent), gas units is 22,257 megawatts (26.1 percent), and the steam units is 15,829 megawatts (18.6 percent), at present.
