Kazakhstan may set new maximum wholesale prices for commercial gas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 27

Trend:

Wholesale prices for commercial gas have been reduced from 3.8 to 17.5 percent since January 1, 2019, depending on the region, and have not increased until now, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

“The maximum wholesale price for commercial gas consists of the purchase price of gas from subsoil users, the cost of transporting and storing gas at facilities of underground gas storage (UGS), and the rate of return,” the ministry said.

At the same time, the maximum wholesale price for commercial gas for industrial consumers-investors who purchase commercial gas for the production of compressed and (or) liquefied natural gas consists of the cost of gas, said the message of the ministry.

Currently, the approved maximum wholesale prices for commercial gas for the domestic market are lower than the prime cost of supplied gas.

Since January 1, 2019, the ministry has reduced the maximum wholesale prices for commercial gas in the range from 3.8 to 17.5 percent, depending on the region, and have not increased until now.

The Ministry of Energy plans to approve the maximum wholesale prices for commercial gas in the domestic market of Kazakhstan, including for industrial consumers-investors purchasing commercial gas for the production of compressed and (or) liquefied natural gas, for the period from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Based on the foregoing, a draft order providing for an increase in the maximum wholesale price for commercial gas up to 15 percent was prepared. The order is under discussion in the Kazakh National Chamber of Entrepreneurs (Atameken) and state bodies.
