Electricity consumption in Azerbaijan increases with creation of new industries - ministry

Due to the creation of new industrial sectors, electricity production in Azerbaijan increased by 27.6 percent, and consumption - by 37.8 percent over the past 10 years, Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev said, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.

Valiyev made the statement while chairing an online meeting of the Energy Sector Coordinating Committee of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program.

According to the deputy minister, thanks to investments in the electric power system and modernization measures over the past 10 years, the efficiency and quality of electricity have increased significantly, and the level of losses has decreased.

"Losses in the production and distribution of electricity decreased from 22.4 percent to 9.4 percent, and fuel consumption for the production of 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity decreased from 319 grams to 264 grams," Valiyev emphasized.

The official stressed that the work carried out to ensure energy security, which is one of the most important elements of the country's economic security, has strengthened Azerbaijan's position as an exporter of electricity.

After the development of successful relations with neighboring countries, electricity exports in 2020 compared to 2010 increased from 380 million kilowatt-hours to 1.15 billion kilowatt-hours.
