Trans Caspian Pipeline has nothing to do with Dostluk field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The joint project of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the development of Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea has nothing to do with the Trans Caspian Pipeline, Trend quoted Russian ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin as saying.

Dostlug is a new name of the field that is located on the border of Azerbaijani and Turkmen sectors of the Caspian Sea. It was known as Kepez in Azerbaijan and Sardar in Turkmenistan. The negotiations on the joint development of the field were held before. On January 21, these talks brought tangible results with the signing of the MoU.

Its reserves can be approved by carrying out modern methods of seismic exploration and probably, exploratory drilling. It is necessary to outline many technical and commercial issues related to the future development of this field.

“The Trans Caspian Pipeline project is a completely different topic, which has nothing to do with Dostluk. There were various viewpoints that the agreement will pave the way for construction of the Trans Caspian Pipeline. Dostluk is an oil field with significant reserves. It has associated gas, but not as much as to be transported via this possible route,” said the envoy.
