By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) consortium TAP AG is implementing 61 projects in Northern Greece, Trend quoted TAP’s Social & Environmental Investment Manager in Greece, Vassiliki Sotiropoulou as saying.

“Our SEI programme is at the heart of our engagement and cooperation with the local communities across the pipeline’s route. We are proud to say that since 2015, TAP has implemented 137 projects throughout Northern Greece amounting to approximately €19 million, while 61 more projects are currently under implementation. These cover a wide range of initiatives such as the donation of 32 ambulances and medical equipment to the National Centre for Emergency Assistance, Master’s and Vocational Training programmes, upgrading community facilities and supporting the construction of critical infrastructure, including irrigation networks and photovoltaic parks,” he said.

TAP’s SEI programme supports the development priorities of the regions the pipeline traverses, namely Western Macedonia, Central Macedonia and Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, primarily focusing on their social needs, infrastructure and capacity building.

As the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a.

As a key part of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP is strategically and economically important to Europe and essential in providing reliable access to a new source of natural gas. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Snam (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagás (16 percent) and Axpo (5 percent).
