Iran starts oil extraction from Asmari oil reservoir at Abouzar field

For the first time, Iran began oil extraction from the Asmari oil reservoir of the Abouzar field in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran) in the last month (May 22 through June 21, 2021), head of the engineering department of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) Javad Rostami said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to him, in this regard, well A14-4H was drilled and launched in the Asmari oil reservoir.

The official added that it is possible to extract 6,000-10,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Asmari oil reservoir by drilling 5-8 wells there.

Rostami said that 1.19 billion barrels of crude oil were extracted from the Ghar oil reservoir of the Abouzar field by the end of last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). The reservoir contains 4.03 billion barrels of crude oil, of which 1.73 billion barrels can be extracted.

“In addition, 13.5 million barrels of crude oil were extracted from the Barghan reservoir of the Abouzar oil field by the end of last Iranian year. The reservoir contains 118 million barrels of crude oil, of which 31 million barrels can be extracted,” he noted.

The official emphasized that 6.7 million barrels of crude oil were extracted from the Demam reservoir of the Abouzar oil field within the mentioned period. The reservoir contains 138 million barrels of crude oil, of which 18.4 million barrels can be extracted.

As reported, Iran's Abouzar oil field is located in Bushehr Province, 75 km west of Kharg Island. The field contains more than 4 billion barrels of crude oil. Iran reportedly, extracts 220,000 barrels of oil per day from the field.
