bp says Shah Deniz, ACG platforms operated uninterruptedly during pandemic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

All eight platforms at Shah Deniz and Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields operated uninterruptedly during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp Vice president for communications and advocacy, Middle East and Caspian, told Trend.

“The pandemic forced some companies throughout the world to temporarily suspend certain projects. However, our operations in Azerbaijan didn’t face any disruptions in this period. All of our 8 platforms at ACG and Shah Deniz operated smoothly. Despite the challenges and restrictions caused by the pandemic, we continued oil and gas production with the government’s support,” he added.

bp vice-president went on to add that the post-pandemic period is a new era for the oil and gas industry. “Global energy production saw a significant slowdown in 2020. World energy consumption fell by 4.5 percent, the greatest year-on-year decrease since 1945. Oil accounted for 75 percent of the reduction in energy consumption.”

In the post-pandemic period, the suspended projects will come online this year amid the economic recovery, rising demand, consumption, which positively affect oil prices as well, noted Aslanbayli.
