SOCAR, BOTAS negotiating for construction of new Turkish-Azerbaijani gas pipeline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Turkey’s BOTAS conduct negotiations for the construction of Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline between the two countries, Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources told Trend on July 8.

According to the ministry, the parties will soon complete the negotiations.

Azerbaijani and Turkish energy ministries signed a memorandum of understanding on Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline project on December 15, 2020.

The pipeline’s throughput capacity will be 500 million cubic meters per year.

The project will be implemented by SOCAR and BOTAS.

Turkey’s TPAO company will conduct communication and other work within the project.

Engineering work was completed in October.

Nakhchivan currently receives gas mainly through Iran.
