Greek company to build two new substations in Georgia

Greek Mytilineos S.A (Metka) signed a contract for the construction of new substations in Georgia worth 36 million euros with Georgian State Electrosystem JSC (GSE), Trend reports with reference to the press service of the GSE.

According to the contract, Mytilineos S.A (Metka) will build two new substations in Ozurgei and Lajanuri towns, as well as will expand the Akhaltsihe-500 substation.

The GSE noted that the implementation of the project will allow satisfying the growing demand for electricity in Adjara and Guria, as well as to increase the export potential of the country and develop the infrastructure that will contribute to the integration of new hydroelectric power plants into the gear system.

It is reported that the construction of new substations in Ozurgeti, Layanururi and the expansion of Akhaltsikhe-500 will begin in stages, and will be completed in 2023-2024.

Also, it was noted that the construction is carried out under the Georgian Energy Network Improvement Programme (ENIP). After the program is completed by the end of 2026, five substations will be built and expanded in Georgia, and the total length of power lines will be about 500 kilometers.

The ENIP program includes financing from the German Bank for Reconstruction and Development (KFW), co-financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a grant from the European Investment Support Platform (EU NIP). The estimated total investment program amounts to 325 million euros.
