Number of combined heat and power plants in Kazakhstan to be transferred to gas

Projects for the transfer of combined heat and power plant (CHPP) 1 and 2 to gas in Nur-Sultan will be completed in 2022, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev said, Trend reports.

According to Mirzagaliyev, also, work is underway to convert three CHPPs to gas in Almaty.

“An important issue in improving the environmental situation is the conversion of existing thermal power plants to gas. It is also necessary to build new stations using clean sources of generation. In 2022, the projects of transferring CHPP-1 and CHPP-2 in Nur-Sultan to gas will be completed. In the city of Almaty, work is underway to convert three CHPPs to gas. The total capacity will amount to 1,300 MW. The completion is estimated to be completed before 2026,” Mirzagaliyev said.

In addition, the issue of construction of combined cycle gas turbines in the south of the country with a capacity of 2,150 MW is being considered.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Energy announced the options for gas supply to northern and eastern regions.
