Turkmenistan's Akhal Electric Power Station boosts output rate

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24

By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

The Akhal State Power Plant, the most powerful gas turbine power plant in Turkmenistan, produced 2,749,718 kilowatt-hours in 2021, Trend reports citing Jeyhun news.

Last year the rate of electricity production at the plant increased by 11.4 percent compared to 2020.

The commissioning of this power plant in 2010 enabled the city of Ashgabat and the Akhal region to improve the reliability of their electricity supply. The plant's capacity increased to 648.1 MW after the commissioning of three small gas turbines in 2013 and two gas turbines in 2014.

Unlike many other gas turbines in the country, the Akhal station's gas turbines can run on both gas and diesel fuel.

Turkmenistan is actively joining the single power system of Central Asia and plays an important role in creating additional opportunities for further expansion of volumes of electricity supplies to the Turkmen electricity grid.

The Central Asian country is expected to grow electricity exports by 8.7 percent by 2025. The increase in exports will be facilitated by the construction of new power plants, power transmission lines, modern transformer substations, and distribution facilities.
