Turkmenistan to provide Tajikistan with unlimited amount of liquefied gas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 2

By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

Turkmenistan will increase its liquefied gas supply to Tajikistan, said Daler Juma, Energy and Water Resources Minister of Tajikistan, Trend reports citing Orient news.

Tajikistan already received 5,000 tons of liquefied gas from Turkmenistan in 2021, he said.

Juma added that following the recent agreement signed between the two countries, Tajikistan will be able to import unlimited amount of liquefied gas from Turkmenistan.

Currently, Russia and Kazakhstan are the main fuel suppliers for Tajikistan. Tajikistan imported a total of 410,000 tons of fuel last year, 360,000 tons of which came from Kazakhstan, with the remainder - from Russia.

Following the results of negotiations between the presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in Ashgabat, an agreement on cooperation in the transportation of liquefied gas, fuels, and lubricants was signed in August 2021.

Liquefied gas production is one of Turkmenistan's oil and gas complex's promising areas of development. The Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries (TCOR) is Turkmenistan's largest producer of liquefied natural gas, producing more than 300,000 tons per year – two-thirds of the country's liquefied fuel production.

Another Turkmengas State Concern plant in Turkmenistan's Ahal region is designed to produce 115,000 tons of liquefied gas per year.
