The operation to regulate the water of the Bolgarchay River in the Ardabil Province (north-western Iran) on the border between Iran and Azerbaijan will be boosted, Executive Director of Iran’s Ardabil Regional Water Company Ali Heydari Anari said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

“The floods on the Bolgarchay River at different times of the year cause serious damage to agricultural areas, as well as facilities around the river. In order to prevent these floods and use them effectively, the focus is on improving the Imarat and Tazeh kand dams,” Heydari Anari noted.

He also added that there is a 54-percent physical progress in the construction of the Imarat Dam, which is currently under construction to regulate the water of Bolgarchay River.

According to him, the capacity of this dam will be 182 million cubic meters. With the launch of the dam, it will be possible to irrigate about 38,000 hectares of land in the Angut and Germi districts of Ardabil Province.

The Bolgarchay River is one of the border rivers between Iran and Azerbaijan. The length of this river is 163 kilometers, the area of its basin is 217 square kilometers.
