Iran records increase in electricity generation of TPPs

The electricity generation of Iran's thermal power plants increased by 9 percent, during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through February 19, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Nasser Eskanadari said, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

According to Eskandari, the electricity generation of thermal power plants for the reporting period exceeded 300 billion kilowatt-hours.

The deputy director added that Iran is implementing a plan to repair power plants that could generate more than 100,000 megawatt-hours of electricity until this summer (when the electricity consumption in the country is at peak level.

“The repair plan has been implemented as of the 7th month of the current Iranian year (September 23, 2021) and will last by the end of the 2nd month of next Iranian year (April 21, 2022),” he said.

Eskandari noted that about 58 percent of the country's thermal power plants have been repaired so far. Thus, the repairs of steam blocks with the capacity to generate about 22,300 megawatts of electricity, as well as, gas units with the capacity to generate 8,450 megawatts of electricity, have been completed.

In total, there are currently 587 power units operating at 129 thermal power plants in Iran, which have the capacity to generate a total of 69,969 megawatt-hours of electricity.
