BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. The natural gas consumption in Iran amounted to 238.5 billion cubic meters over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Manager of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei told Shana News Agency, Trend reports.

Thus, over 105 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed in the first six months of last year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), while about 133.5 billion cubic meters - in the second six months (September 23, 2021 through March 20 2022).

According to him, 122 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and commercial facilities, 45.5 billion cubic meters by industrial plants and 71 billion cubic meters by thermal power plants.

“Meanwhile, in the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), an average of 180 million cubic meters of gas were consumed daily at thermal power plants in Iran. This figure rose to 194 million cubic meters over last Iranian year,” Joulaei added.

The official also noted that gas consumption by residential buildings and commercial facilities for the last Iranian year averaged 334 million cubic meters daily. The figure stood at an average of 333 million cubic meters in the preceding Iranian year.

Joulaei emphasized that on March 28, 2022, Iran consumed 745 million cubic meters of gas.

In total, Iran consumed a total of 233 billion cubic meters of gas in the preceding Iranian year.
