Georgia shares data on electricity imports from Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 7. Georgia’s electricity imports from Azerbaijan from January through February 2022 amounted to $8.6 million, which is a decrease of 36.2 percent, compared to the same period of 2021 ($13.5 million), Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

According to Georgia’s Electricity Market Operator (ESCO), the total volume of Georgia’s electricity imports from Azerbaijan in the reporting period of 2022 amounted to 114.5 million kWh - a decrease of 61.9 percent, compared to the same period of 2021 (300.6 million kWh).

However, the amount of electricity imports from Azerbaijan in February 2022 alone increased by 29.7 percent, compared to $3.7 million in January 2022, and totaled $4.8 million.

The volume of the electricity exports from Azerbaijan to Georgia in the reporting period of 2022 also increased by 35.3 percent, compared to January 2022 (48.6 million kWh), and totaled 65.8 million kWh.

Georgia’s total electricity imports from January through February 2022 amounted to $21.6 million, which is an increase of 25.5 percent, compared to $17.2 million worth of electricity over the same period of 2021.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s total imports from Azerbaijan from January through February 2022 amounted to $156.4 million, which is an increase of 55.5 percent, compared to $100.6 million over the same period of 2021.
