BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) plans to take a number of steps to increase gas extraction for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Director of the integrated planning at the NIOC, Karim Zobeydi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Zobeydi, work is underway to complete operations on 12th, 14th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th phases of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar).

“In addition, Iran will launch gas extraction from the 11th phase of the mentioned gas field this year. Thus, about 450 million cubic feet (about 12.7 million cubic meters) of gas will be extracted daily from the 11th phase at the first stage,” he added.

The director also pointed out that in order to help increase extraction from the South Pars gas field, the Iran’s North Pars field will also be developed.

“At the same time, the development of 15 gas fields in the territory of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) is in the spotlight,” Zobeydi said.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

The phases of the South Pars gas field are located in an area of 3.7 km. Iran has extracted more than 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 2.2 billion barrels of gas condensate worth $335 billion by the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).
